Election 2008: Mat-Su Valley results

In yesterday’s general election, Mat-Su Valley Republicans scored a clean sweep over their Democratic opponents. In all but one case, that meant victory for the incumbents. The exception was Republican Linda Menard who easily defeated Democrat Erick Cordero for the Senate Seat formerly held by Lyda Green.

In Palmer’s District 13, incumbent Carl Gatto handily won over a well-financed campaign mounted by Democrat David Cheezem. Incumbent Republican Wes Keller easily held off a challenge by Rose Smith in Wasilla’s District 14. Keller was appointed in 2007 and this was his first election for the seat. Incumbent Mark Neuman won a third term representing the region north of Wasilla by beating Democrat Lew Dischner in District 15. District 16 remained securely Republican when Bill Stolze defeated Democrat Beverly Serrarno for his third term. House Speaker John Harris defeated his Democratic challenger, Nancy Lethcoe to retain his District 12 seat. District 12 extends from Valdez to the eastern area of the Mat-Su Valley. The results, however are unofficial until certified in late November.
