Sealaska Asks for Land in Tongass

A bill that would allow Sealaska Native Corporation to select 85,000 acres in the Tongass National Forest had its first hearing on Thursday in Washington. It’s opposed by environmental groups, including the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council. Sealaska hopes to claim the lands through the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act or ANCSA.
