Sutton Gains Funds for New Library

Ellen Lockyer, KSKA – Anchorage

The little community of Sutton is gaining almost $2 million in state funds to build a new library. Governor Sean Parnell signed the state’s capital budget last week, and that includes $1.7 million for construction of library building.

Construction is set for next summer on a new building that will double the size of the current library’s space. The total cost of the new building is expected to be more than $3 million. Nancy Bertels, who has been the librarian in Sutton for the past quarter century, says library personnel will rely on grants to complete the project.
