Two Plead Out to Hate Crimes

Steve Heimel, APRN – Anchorage

The two people who assaulted a Native man in downtown Anchorage a year ago pled out to hate crimes yesterday in federal court. Robert Gum, age 19 and Deanna Scaglione, also known as Deanna Powers, age 21, admit to violating the civil rights of the man by shouting racial slurs, throwing things at him, confronting him on the street, and then posting the video of the assault on YouTube, calling it an “egging.” The two still face assault charges.
