Miller Lead Narrows as Officials Begin Counting Absentee Ballots

Senate candidate Joe Miller’s lead over incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski narrowed to just 1,325 votes Tuesday morning as election officials began counting absentee and other ballots.

The Republican primary has generated national headlines since last Tuesday’s election and the tightness of the race as fueled tense relations between the two campaigns.

Going into Tuesday’s count, Miller led Murkowski by 1,668 votes.

By mid morning, the Alaska Division of Elections had counted 2,451 votes mostly from Anchorage.

They are expected to count more than 25,000 votes.
