Kohring Takes Appeal to Ninth Circuit

Steve Heimel, APRN – Anchorage

Imprisoned former state legislator Vic Kohring has taken his appeal to the next level.  Kohring was caught by an FBI camera taking money from VECO owner Bill Allen and convicted of taking bribes and other charges.  He appealed because the prosecution withheld evidence about Allen that might have affected how the jury viewed Allen’s testimony against him.  Federal court judge John Sedwick denied the appeal, ruling that evidence of Allen’s penchant for young girls would not have been enough to change the outcome of the case.   Now Kohring has taken his appeal to the Ninth Circuit.  He is currently serving a six-year sentence.
