Alaska Dispatch Editor Detained at Miller Event

Steve Heimel, APRN – Anchorage

Yesterday at a campaign forum promoted to supporters by internet, a reporter trying to ask Republican U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller was handcuffed by security guards.  The security guards, who run a gun store in Anchorage, said Tony Hopfinger of the Alaska Dispatch was trespassing.  Hopfinger was referred to as a liberal blogger by Miller, who says the internet publication has been assaulting him and now it has turned physical.  When Anchorage police arrived, Hopfinger was released.  Hopfinger says he did point his camera at Miller and try to get him to answer his questions.  Other candidates were quick to respond, with write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski calling on Miller to apologize, and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ethan Berkowitz calling on Governor Sean Parnell to withdraw his support of Miller.
