Troopers Searching for Man Missing Near Nome

Ben Matheson, KNOM – Nome

Alaska State Troopers are looking for John Koezuna outside of Nome.  Trooper Sergeant Andrew Merrill says that troopers received a call from family members last night saying he was missing.  State troopers and volunteer search and rescue personal went out along the coast in search of Koezuna yesterday.

The 55-year-old Koezuna was staying at a cabin near Woolley Lagoon, around 40 miles northwest of Nome. Family members went to the cabin check on him yesterday.  They found a note dated Dec. 20 saying that he was walking to Nome.  Merrill says the family has not heard from him since the 20th.
