Board Seeks To Reinstate Some Budget Cuts

Wednesday night the Anchorage School Board entered the most painful part of the annual budget process when it held the first of two public readings on the proposed 2011-2012 financial plan. About two dozen speakers came forward in what often were last ditch stands to protect positions and programs they felt essential, even in the face of district’s estimated 12 million dollar budget shortfall. Later board member Jeannie Mackie summarized the tone of the evening and the board’s unavoidable dilemma.
