New Medical Clinic Wants To Treat Unserved Seniors

Sometime this month, a new facility will open for Anchorage seniors whom local physicians or clinics won’t treat because Medicare is their primary health insurance. Located on the Providence Health and Services Alaska campus, the staff of the new clinic hopes to make a big difference for the thousands of local elders now without a primary health care home.

Dr. Tom Hunt is Chief Executive of the Providence Physician Services Organization, which will run the clinic. He says the low Medicare reimbursement has produced a large number of seniors without primary health care.
