Former Legislator Elected Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor

A former legislator has been elected mayor of the Kenai Peninsula Borough.

Former Rep. Mike Navarre took nearly 53 percent of the vote in a runoff last week with Fred Sturman.

Navarre had already once been mayor, winning a three-year term in 1996. Before that, Navarre was elected to the state House in 1985 and served through 1996.

Navarre and Sturman were the two leading vote-getters in the October municipal election.
