Woman, Two Children Die After Car Rolls into Long Lake

Alaska state troopers report a Valdez woman and two children perished Thursday afternoon when their vehicle overturned and partially submerged into Long Lake on mile 86 of the Glenn Highway.

Divers extracted Leah Thompson, 28, and her children Avery McIntosh, 5 years old, and Trinty McIntosh, 7, from the vehicle.

Troopers say CPR was attempted. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. The two children were taken to Mat-Su Regional Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

No one witnessed the accident, but troopers say their investigation showed Thompson was driving south when she lost control, slid off the road and rolled into the lake.
