Woman Charged With Burning Roommate To Death

A 25-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder and arson in the death of her roommate at an apartment complex in east Anchorage.

Anchorage police say Gina Virgilio poured gasoline on 24-year-old of Michael Gonzales as he slept on a couch, set him on fire and left the apartment they shared early Friday morning.

Police say the fire destroyed the apartment and forced the evacuation of 18 other apartments. Some residents suffered smoke inhalation.

The Anchorage Daily News reports police arrested Virgilio on Saturday.

Virgilio is also charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and assault.
