Woman Dies Fleeing After Highway Traffic Stop

A 46-year-old woman died in a Seward Highway car crash and Alaska State Troopers say she was fleeing after a traffic stop.

Zoe Ivanoff of Unalakleet died early Tuesday.

Troopers tell KTUU-TV that an officer contacted Ivanoff at a pullout north of the junction with the Sterling Highway. The trooper discovered Ivanoff was driving on a revoked license and summoned a tow truck.

Troopers say it took more than an hour to arrive, and that just after 4 a.m., Ivanoff took off, heading south toward Seward.

Troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen says the patrol officer followed Ivanoff through several curves but lost her at a straight section. He turned around and found the SUV had gone down an embankment at Mile 37.

Ivanoff was ejected from the SUV.
