Fire Near Fairbanks Increases to 42,000 Acres

By | August 24, 2012

A wildfire burning on military land south of Fairbanks has grown to 42,000 acres, and smoke continues to cause hazy conditions.

The Dry Creek Fire is growing because of shifting winds. The fire was more than 28,000 acres on Thursday, and spread 14,000 acres throughout the day.

The fire located on land co-managed by the U.S. Army and the Bureau of Land Management about 25 miles south of Fairbanks. Air quality advisories have been issued.

The fire is not being actively fought since there’s no threat to people or resources. However, that could change if the fire jumps the Tanana River.
