The Department of Interior conducted its own lease sale today, as well. The Bureau of Land Management accepted 14 bids in the NPR-A. The 160,000 acres bid on today is a fraction of the 4.5 million that were available.
The Bureau of Land Management’s Ruth McCoard says two companies bought the oil drilling rights.
“Woodstone Resources had two bids and theirs were in the northeast planning area,” McCoard said. “NorDaq had 12 bids that were in the northwest planning area.”
NorDaq also won several bids at the day’s earlier lease sale sponsored by the state.
McCoard says the rights went for 898 thousand dollars … with half going to the federal government and half to the state.
