Fur Rondy is cabin-fever-reliever for Alaskans

It’s time to Rondy, Alaskans! Time to quit moping and get outside for some fun at the 78th annual Fur Rondy festival. Days are getting longer and spring is right around the corner. Well, sort of. Fur Rondy starts Friday, Feb. 22 and runs through Sunday, Mar. 3. Register NOW for events! Here’s some of what’s in store for the first few days of Rondy:

Friday-Sunday, Feb. 22-24, starting at noon each day
World Championship Sled Dog Races: Voted “Best Event” by the International Sled Dog Racing Association, this has been attracting mushers from Alaska and the world since 1946. Defending champ Ken Chezik is back again this year! (Sponsored by Hotwire, LLC)

Friday, Feb. 22, 8 pm (TICKETS $25)
Jim Beam Jam: Appetizers, adult beverages, music and dancing blend for a perfect Rondy kick-off party. (Sponsored by Southern Wine & Spirits of Alaska)

Saturday, Feb. 23, 9:30 am (REGISTRATION REQUIRED, $VARIES)
Frostbite Footrace and Costume Fun Run: Rain or snow, sunshine or clouds, hardy Alaskans get out of bed early on the first Saturday of Rondy to participate in this annual favorite. (Sponsored by Imaging Associates)

Saturday, Feb. 23, 10:30 am
Rondy Grand Parade: See Rondy royalty, Rondy Bear, nifty cars, roller girls, and much, much more in this festival tradition. (Sponsored by Morrison Auto Group)
