Galena Flood Damage Reroutes Yukon 800

The annual Yukon 800 boat race will be a little longer this year. The course for the power boat marathon on the Yukon, Tanana and Chena rivers, between Fairbanks and Galena and back, will be extended all the way to Kaltag, due to flood damage at the normal halfway layover point. The Fairbanks Outboard Association says the new turn around point will lengthen the race to about 1 thousand miles. The theme for this year’s event is: “Galena Strong”. The race dates back to 1961.
