Authorities Investigate Coast Guard Member’s Death

Juneau police and the Coast Guard are investigating the death of a Guardsman.

The body of 43-year-old Paul D’Angelo was found Saturday when a co-worker stopped to check on him. Officials couldn’t determine the cause of death because of the advanced state of decomposition. The body has been sent to Anchorage for an autopsy.

Authorities said D’Angelo hadn’t been to work for about two weeks because of an illness. Lt. David Campbell says they are aware of medical issues, and medication was found at the home. There were no indications of suicide.

The Coast Guard’s Investigative Service, its federal law enforcement arm, is investigating. The service conducts the Coast Guard’s internal and external criminal investigations.
