Barge Strikes Coast Guard Vessel In Cordova Harbor

There was a collision at the docks in Cordova that damaged a Coast Guard buoy tender.

An Alaska Marine Lines barge. the Cordova Provider, was being maneuvered by the tug Krystal Sea Sunday morning, when it struck the cutter Sycamore at its mooring.

“There is some damage to the Sycamore and cosmetic damage to the barge,” Coast Guard spokesperson Petty Officer Grant DeVuyst said. “The cause of the incident it under investigation by marine safety Valdez personnel.”

Like the 225-foot Sycamore, the Krystal Sea and the Cordova Provider are home-ported in Cordova.  The barge was being brought back from Whittier at the time of the incident.

There were no injuries to the four-person crew or pollution reported.
