January 2015 Television Highlights: Downton Returns

Downton Abbey, the most popular program on PBS, returns for its 5th Season Sunday, January 4 at 8;00 pm on Alaska Public Media.

This Emmy® and Golden Globe® award-winning hit drama of intimately interlaced stories centered on an English country estate is the highest-rated drama in PBS history.

The acclaimed ensemble cast is joined by guest stars Harriet Walter as Lady Shackleton and Peter Egan as Lord Flintshire, together with new characters played by Richard E. Grant, Anna Chancellor and Rade Sherbedgia.

Other television programming news for January.

  • Longtime PBS host and commentator Bill Moyers retired in January. Alaska Edition’s Saturday broadcast will move to 6:00 pm. It resumes on Jan. 9.
  • Travel host Rick Steves moves to 4:30 pm on Saturdays with his program Rick Steves’ Europe. 
  • Front Row Center joins the regular lineup Saturday nights at 11:00 pm.
  • A new season of Antiques Roadshow premieres Monday, Jan. 5 at 7:00 pm.
