Freakonomics Radio will air on KSKA Mondays 7-8 p.m.

Change is in the air, listeners. And it’s an exciting time to be a public radio station! Programs like Reveal and Freakonomics that were once only available sporadically are now available weekly. KSKA-Anchorage is adding those programs to its weeknight line-up along with fresh storytelling from The Moth Radio Hour.

The 7:00 p.m. repeat of Fresh Air with Terry Gross will now play at 10:00 p.m. weeknights. The 7:00 p.m. block will instead be…. drum roll, please…. a line-up of some public radio’s best content:

  • MONDAY, 7 p.m., Freakonomics: Rogue economists explore the hidden side of everything.
  • TUESDAY, 7 p.m., RevealPeabody Award-winning investigative journalism program from The Center for Investigative Reporting and PRX.
  • WEDNESDAY, 7 p.m., The Moth Radio HourSeries featuring true stories told live on stage without scripts, notes, or accompaniment, similar to Alaska’s own Arctic Entries.

  • FRIDAY, 7 p.m., Putumayo: Moving from the 10:00 hour to it’s new time.

Bede started her work with Alaska Public Media as a volunteer in 1979, and then the host of Morning Edition in 1980. In 1981 Bede became the Operations Director, and in 1989 she took her current position as FM Program Director. Bede recieved the Alaska Broadcasters Association Employee of the Year award in 1991.

Bede has always loved radio; after her first day of volunteering at KSKA she knew it’s where she wanted to be. A friend of Bede’s, Corky Merkel was a KSKA staff member and she invited Bede to come in to volunteer. Bede began helping Corky edit the program guide and then started volunteering on air Monday nights. That first summer in 1979, KSKA needed a vacation relief person for the on air staff. Bede made herself available to do anything they needed, so she could learn about radio from square one. Over thirty years later, Bede is still learning new things every day about her profession and the wonderful community she serves.
