Iditarod officials are adding 50 minutes to Wasilla musher Robert Redington’s Yukon River layover after he was inadvertently allowed to leave the Nikolai checkpoint 50 minutes before the correct release time.

Race Marshall Mark Nordman in a statement from the Iditarod Trail Committee, says the early release following his 24-hour layover was not Redington’s fault.

“This adjustment does not affect Redington’s overall race time or provide any competitive advantage or disadvantage over other racers,” said Nordman.

The 27-year-old rookie as of Thursday afternoon had checked into the Takotna checkpoint.
