Hiker dies after fall in Denali National Park

A hiker died last week in Denali National Park.

Searchers discovered the remains of 24-year-old Michael Purdy Sunday near the north end of Savage River Loop Trail.

According to a National Park Service press release, Purdy had diverted from the trail onto higher terrain, when he fell, suffering a fatal head injury.

It’s believed the fall occurred Tuesday of last week.

Purdy, of Portland, Oregon, was set to begin his second season of summer employment at Denali ATV Tours in Healy.
