Man charged in fatal South Anchorage shooting

One man is dead and another in custody after a fatal shooting in South Anchorage on Wednesday.

Anchorage police have charged 23-year-old Andrew Robertson-Goughnour with 1st- and 2nd-degree murder, in the death of 19-year-old Brandon Merritt.

According to an APD release, the two got into a verbal altercation at the Holiday gas station on Abbott Road, when Merritt approached Goughnour’s vehicle.

Goughnour produced a firearm and shot Merritt once.

Police say Goughnour remained at the scene and was taken into custody.

Merritt’s next of kin have been notified.
