Man charged in Spenard shooting

21-year-old Cody Randall Hess has been charged in connection with a shooting in the Anchorage’s Spenard area.

According to a release, a man called APD dispatch at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday saying he had been shot outside near 37th Avenue and Wyoming Drive.

The victim said he was calling from a nearby gas station. The police investigation found that the victim had asked Hess several times to leave the area before Hess fired several rounds during the argument.

Responding officers searched the area and took Hess into custody.

APD says the victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

Hess has been charged with assault among other charges.
