The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that Guy Christopher Mannino was sentenced Wednesday after being found guilty of trying to kill a witness and two federal officers while behind bars in 2014.

Prosecutors say Mannino tried to hire a fellow inmate to kill those involved in the investigation for a 2013 murder plot, which wasn’t carried out and didn’t result in charges. The inmate instead approached authorities and agreed to help gather evidence against Mannino.

Mannino’s attorney had sought a shorter prison term, citing his 57-year-old client’s age and poor health.
