The Alaska Goldpanners are off to a strong start in the 111th edition of the Midnight Sun Baseball Game at Fairbanks Growden Park. The home team is leading the Kenai Peninsula Oilers 8 to nothing through 6 innings, in the suspended game.

With 6 innings done and a team ahead, the game could have been considered complete, but as clouds blocked the midnight sun after 1 AM, umpires and coaches instead opted to halt play for half an hour, and then, when conditions didn’t improve, rather than break tradition by turning on the stadium lights, delayed the remainder of the game until tonight.

The final 3 innings of the Midnight Sun Game will be followed by a second game on Wednesday night at Growden Park.
