Tickets went on sale Tuesday for a benefit show the group is performing in Anchorage on July 13th at Williwaw, a downtown restaurant and venue.

A Tribe Called Red has won global acclaim for combining electronic and dance-hall music with First Nations elements and themes. According to their website, the group’s Electric Pow Wow events in Ottawa, “showcase native talent and aboriginal culture, alongside an open, wild party.”

Plans for the concert have been in the works for several months, according to Emily Tyrrell with the First Alaskans Institute, one of the sponsoring organizations along with the Alaska Native Heritage Center and the Healthy Alaska Natives Foundation. Proceeds for the event after cost will go back to the sponsors. The event is receiving corporate and business donations, as well, according to Tyrrell.

Alaska’s Pamyua is opening the concert.
