A flood advisory is in effect along the Kuskokwim River near Nikolai through early Wednesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, high rainfall in the area has caused the south fork of the Kuskokwim River to rise 6 feet over the past few days.

The river is expected to continue to rise slowly or remain nearly steady until about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday before cresting.

Minor flooding is expected in low lying areas around Nikolai.

The Weather Service says area residents have reported a low water crossing to the community’s dump is under water, as are several nearby sandbars.

The flood advisory expires at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.
