Flood watch issued in Lower Koyukuk and Middle Yukon Valleys

Heavy rains in the Lower Koyukuk and Middle Yukon Valleys have prompted the
National Weather Service to issue a flood watch beginning Friday, extending through Saturday evening.

1 to 2 inches of rain are in the forecast, with the possibility of more
in some areas beginning early Friday morning.

The Weather Service says rapid rises will occur on smaller streams and
rivers draining into the Nulato Hills followed by significant rises in
larger area rivers.

Flooding is expected in low-lying areas, potentially affecting the
communities of Galena, Nulato, Huslia, Kaltag, Ruby, and Koyukuk.
