APD searching for shooting suspect near Central Middle School

UPDATE: Anchorage police report they made contact with shooting suspect Tommy Rumph in the area of 29th Ave. and Willow Dr. where he surrendered peacefully. He is being transported to APD headquarters for questioning.

Anchorage police are searching for the suspected shooter last seen near Central Middle School.

APD was alerted to the shooting in the area of 15th Avenue and E Street at about 6:15 Tuesday morning.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a deceased male.

The suspect fled on foot.

APD believes the suspect’s name to be Tommy Rumph, described as a 6’2″ black male weighing around 195 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

The suspect was last seen wearing a dark, long sleeved shirt with white stripes along the collar bones.

The Anchorage School District announced the closure of Central Middle School and Chugach Optional today, while police search for the shooting suspect.

Students are being bused to West High School for parents to pick up.
