Alexandra has a Bachelors degree in Social Studies from Harvard University. Her first paying job in journalism was with The Economist. Alexandra was assigned to work on their finance and economics blog the same month that Lehman Brothers went under, and was lucky in that every other reporter was in the same boat of trying to figure out what exactly had just happened. She spent a couple years at The American Prospect after that, where she edited the magazine’s politics blog. Alexandra moved to Alaska in 2010, after deciding she wanted to get back into public radio. At KUCB, Alexandra was able to report on commercial fishing, natural disasters, and life in the remote Aleutians. And she got to work with the great team that is the Alaska Public Radio Network.
In college, Alexandra was involved with both the newspaper and the rock department of the student radio station. In an effort to combine those two interests, she took an internship with the program Living on Earth her senior year. It became pretty obvious for her, after just a couple of weeks, that there’s no better medium for storytelling.
