Charles Wohlforth

Outdoor Explorer Host & Hometown, Alaska Host

 

Charles has covered Alaska as an author, columnist and radio host for more than 30 years. On Alaska Public Media, he hosts Outdoor Explorer and Hometown Alaska. His column in Alaska Dispatch News appears three times weekly. His most recent book is Beyond Earth: Our Path to a New Home in the Planets, published in 2016 by Pantheon. As author of more than 10 other books, he has written about science, biography, history, travel and the outdoors. His work in broadcasting, journalism and non-fiction writing has won dozens of awards, including the 2004 Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Science and Technology, for The Whale and the Supercomputer: On the Northern Front of Climate Change. Charles also served two terms on the Anchorage Assembly, 1993-99.

Charles’s career at KSKA began as a high school volunteer producer in the first year the station was on the air. His recent work as a freelance host began when helped originate Hometown, Alaska in 2009 and Outdoor Explorer in 2013.
