Northern Edge Cancelled
Another major military exercise has been cancelled. The Alaskan command announced this (Friday) morning that it will not hold Northern Edge 2013. The event, held every other year was scheduled for the last 2 weeks of June.
Ice Rescue
A Fairbanks man survived a crevasse fall on a glacier near Delta Junction yesterday (Thursday). As KUAC’s Dan Bross reports, he was rescued unscathed, despite a long fall and hours trapped in the ice.
First Geese
It’s the classic symbol of spring in the interior. The first of thousands of migrating Canada Geese that stopover in Fairbanks on their way to summer nesting grounds in the arctic, were spotted at the Creamers Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge yesterday (Wednesday).
Michigan Mechanics Plan To Revive Crashed B-25 Bomber
An airplane that crashed 44 years ago near Fairbanks may fly again. The B-25 bomber was being used for firefighting when it belly landed on a Tanana River sandbar in June 1969. No one died in the crash, but the hulk of the World War 2 bomber was damaged and never removed. As KUAC’s Dan Bross reports, a pair of aircraft mechanics from Michigan are planning a rescue attempt.

Tanana Chiefs Conference Convention In Fairbanks
The Tanana Chiefs Conference annual convention is happening in Fairbanks this week. Tuesday, delegates heard from four Interior men, the organization believes were wrongly convicted of murder. The men known as “The Fairbanks 4”: George Frese, Kevin Pease, Marvin Roberts and Eugene Vent are serving long prison sentences for the 1997 beating death of teenager John Hartman in downtown Fairbanks. It’s a case that’s long drawn questions.

State Proposes Land Sale In Central Area
The state is proposing a land sale in the Central area. The Department of Natural Resources is taking public comment on the 600 acre subdivision about a mile and half northeast of Central. D.N.R. Northern region land sales manager Timothy Shilling says the land was identified for sale under a management plan that classified it for private recreation.

The over $262 million operating budget represents a 1 percent increase over the current year.
