300 Villages: Fort Yukon

This week were heading to the Athabascan community of Fort Yukon in Interior Alaska.

The community is located on a small island in the Bering Sea where there are many more fur seals than people. Aqualina Lestinkof lives on St. Paul island.

This week, we’re on our way to Wales, a Bering Sea community about 100 miles north of Nome. Frank Crisci is the mayor of Wales.

Now its time for 300 villages. Today were heading to Lime Village, a tiny community directly west of Anchorage. Ursula Graham is the Tribal Administrator for the Lime Village.

This week, were going north to Point Hope. The community of about 800 people on the Chukchi Sea is anxiously waiting for the right conditions to begin spring whaling. Steve Oomittuk is the mayor of Point Hope.

This week, we’re headed for Eek a small village west of Bethel near the Bering Sea Coast: Fritz Petluska is the City Clerk for Eek. 300 villages is AK’s attempt to put every community in Alaska on the radio.

300 Villages: Unalakleet

And now it’s time for our weekly trip around the state for 300 villages. This week, we’re visiting Unalakleet where the excitement of the Iditarod has just wrapped up. That was Jilleen Johnson who runs Cool Beans coffee shop in Unalakleet.

300 Villages: Koyuk

Now its time for our weekly trip around the state. This week, in honor of the Iditarod, we’re heading to the Norton Sound community of Koyuk. The village is eagerly anticipating the mushers’ arrival. That was Darin Douglas, mayor of Koyuk.

Now it’s time for 300 Villages, AK’s weekly trip around the state. This week, we visit Gustavus, a unique Southeast community on Icy Strait surrounded by wildlife habitat and preserved lands on all sides.

Now it’s time for 300 villages, AK’s weekly trip around the state. This week’s village is a magnet for artists, kayakers, photographers and visitors to the state, not to mention fishermen.
