Pat Yack

Chief Content Officer

Pat-YackPat has always enjoyed reporting and writing. Like many other journalists, he started at the high school newspaper and continued while in college. Pat mainly covered sports during his early years, but eventually branched out to cover other subjects such as the military, politics, government, and regional issues. Pat has spent most of his career working for newspapers in Eugene, Denver, Atlanta, Greensboro (NC) and Jacksonville (Florida). Prior to coming to Alaska, he served as the American Society of Newspaper Editor’s co-chair of the Freedom of Information Committee and the president of the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors. Pat holds a  Bachelor of Fine Arts in Journalism from Southern Methodist University.

Pat’s path to APTI lead through the Journalism and Public Communications Department at UAA where he was the Atwood Chair of Journalism in 2010. Pat continues to serve as an adjunct professor at UAA. He has taught beginning reporting, advanced reporting, Web journalism, global communications, and movies and the First Amendment. He sits on the advisory councils for the department of journalism at SMU and the school of journalism at the University of Florida.
