ASD Budget Cutting Process Begins as Legislature Mulls Increasing Education Funding

Anchorage School District officials presented the 2014-15 budget to the Anchorage School Board Thursday evening. The district faces cutting 23 million dollars this year unless the legislature increases the per student funding. Anchorage School Board Approves Teacher Contract

The Anchorage School Board unanimously approved a new contract for teachers on Monday night. The district saved money in two ways, by not providing benefits for some part-time teachers and by issuing bonuses that do not count toward benefits for other teachers instead of increasing their salaries.

Browder Steps Down, Replacement Named

Anchorage School District Superintendent Jim Browder will retire in June after less than one year on the job, and his replacement has already been chosen. The announcement came after a closed door meeting between School Board members and Superintendent Jim Browder at the Anchorage School District Education Center.

The Anchorage School Board passed their budget last night with one amendment restoring some counselors. The Board heard final public testimony then passed budget passed 6-1.
