Torrie Allen

Chief Marketing & Development Officer

Torrie-AllenAllen serves as chief officer of marketing and development of Alaska Public Media. He assumed this role in March 2012, and is responsible for driving statewide marketing and development strategies for Alaska Public Media, with accountability for its various brands that reach 96% of the population of Alaska.

Prior to joining Alaska Public Media, Allen served as general and artistic director of Anchorage Opera where he gained notoriety for mounting Alaskan and Pacific Northwest premieres and new productions of operas. He introduced Alaskans to Zarzuela and was the first to produce fully- staged Russian grand opera. Under his leadership, Anchorage Opera was recognized by The Paul G. Allen Foundation as a creative and resourceful “Bright Spot” in the Pacific Northwest. In 2011, he was one of the nations 100 top executive arts leaders chosen by National Arts Strategies to participate in its Chief Executive Program, a two-year initiative designed to re-imagine what cultural institutions will be and how they can contribute to civil society.

Before moving to Alaska, Allen served as director of the National Patrons Council at Americans for the Arts in Washington, D.C. Earlier in his career, he managed and co-managed multi- million dollar fundraising portfolios for prominent non-profits in New York City gaining national recognition for his innovative approach to donor cultivation.

He has served as a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts and provided volunteer support for numerous organizations in New York City including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Arts and Business Council of New York, American Repertory Ballet, Russian Chamber Chorus of New York and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.

In Alaska, Allen serves as chair of the Alaska World Affairs Council program committee. He co-founded the Acting for Singers Workshop at the Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez and the first undergraduate opera apprentice program at the University of Alaska Anchorage. He has also provided volunteer support for the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation, Anchorage Museum, Miss Alaska Scholarship Foundation, The Great Alaska Talent Competition and Alaska State Council on the Arts.

Prior to his career in leadership and management, Allen spent a decade as a professional opera singer appearing at renowned venues worldwide from Carnegie Hall in New York City to the Rudolfinum in Prague, Czech Republic. He continues to perform and coach emerging singers. Allen holds degrees from UCLA in political science and the Boston Conservatory in opera and vocal performance. He has participated in advanced professional educational sessions at Harvard Business School, Ross School of Business at University of Michigan and the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service at the University of Texas at Austin.
