New federal grant for preserving Alaska Native languages

A National Science Foundation grant will help linguists work to preserve 11 Alaska Native languages over the next 3 years. Dr. Michael Krauss, Professor Emeritus of Linguistics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will head up the $1,200,000 project working with language specialists from the U.S., Russia and Japan. Krauss says Alaska’s native languages are more endangered than ever.
