Ted Stevens takes the stand

Calling it “a privilege and a duty,” Alaska’s Senator Ted Stevens took the stand to testify in his trial in Washington, DC this afternoon. He’s on trial for allegedly lying on statements filed with the U.S. Senate — statements that prosecutors claim should have included details of gifts worth more than $250,000 he received from constituent businesses and individuals, including former VECO CEO Bill Allen.

APRN reporter Libby Casey is at the federal courthouse in DC today, continuing her coverage of the trial.

Tune in for details this evening during Alaska News Nightly, heard statewide on the stations of the Alaska Public Radio Network.
