Fisheries Management Council Weighs In on Industry Plan

Friday, the North Pacific Fishery Management Council weighed in behind an industry plan to curtail the Atka Mackerel and Pacific Cod fisheries in areas of the Western Aleutians where Steller Sea Lions are not recovering.  The industry plan is less rest restrictive than the plan the National Marine Fisheries Service put out for comment.  The comment period closes Friday.  NMFS has to work within the constraints of the Endangered Species Act.
