Plane Carrying Park Service Employees Missing

Steve Heimel, APRN – Anchorage

A plane carrying three National Park Service employees and a pilot is missing in Katmai National Park.  The single-engine Beaver floatplane had flown across the park from King Salmon to Swikshak Lagoon on Shelikof Strait on Saturday morning, and was returning.  The ceiling was down by the time it left.  Another plane left the Lagoon about 15 minutes later and got through.  A helicopter and fixed wing plane were involved in the search yesterday, which had expanded to a pass to the north, at Kamishak Bay, but so far without success.

On board the plane were the unidentified pilot and Park Service employees Neal Spradlin, 28, of Girdwood, Seth Spradlin, 20, of Indiana, and Mason McLeod, 26, another park employee.
