Ice Alaska Lease Extension Approved

Dan Bross, KUAC – Fairbanks

The Fairbanks Borough Assembly has approved a one-year lease deal that will keep Ice Alaska operating on Alaska Railroad Land for the 2011 World Ice Art Championships.  The Railroad and the non-profit group have battled over a lease for years, and the Borough will assume the liability that the railroad is apparently concerned about.

Assembly members are hoping for legislation that will turn the Railroad land over to the Borough.

Ice Alaska has extensive infrastructure on the railroad land, and a $1.8 million state grant to construct a new building.
