Suicide Averted in Rural Community

Steve Heimel, APRN – Anchorage

A suicide was averted in an unnamed rural community Tuesday when the despondent youth sent a Facebook message to a girl in an Anchorage school, and she went to her counselor and a police officer for help.  The message to the Dimond High student said the boy was in his village school restroom with a gun to his head.  He had been suspended for drug possession.  The response included locking the village school down for a while, but the boy was found at home.
