Stryker Brigade Deploying to Afghanistan in May

Steve Heimel, APRN – Anchorage

The Army’s First Stryker Brigade out of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson has been told it will be headed for Afghanistan in May and California in February.  The combat team of 4,000 soldiers returned from an Iraq deployment in fall of last year.  They start training in February at Fort Irwin, Calif.  Army officials say that many of the unit’s soldiers and leaders have been replaced under the force regeneration system and its equipment was refurbished to prepare for future operations.
