Assembly Wants More Time With Tax Cap Proposition

Last night the Anchorage Assembly postponed action on a ballot measure that would ask city voters if they wanted a more precise definition of “Base Amount” in the municipal charter’s tax cap. The delay came after questions rose over the full fiscal impact of the calculation’s wording.

The ordinance’s sponsor, assembly member Chris Birch, Mayor Dan Sullivan’s administration and the nine members testifying at the public hearing agreed the proposal simply “sets in concrete” the prevailing practice since the tax cap was first approved.
