Coast Guard Releases 'Pathfinder' Report

Steve Heimel, APRN – Anchorage

The Coast Guard report on the tugboat that grounded and spilled on Bligh Reef in 2009 is out.  It blames the crew members in command for not being attentive to where they were.  The tug “Pathfinder” is part of the fleet of escort vessels put on the water after the Exxon  Valdez oil spill of 1989 on the same reef – a clearly marked and well-known navigation hazard.

Crowley Maritime says both of the officers – Captain Ron Monsen  and his Second Mate – were discharged after the incident.
