5.2 Quake Rocks Anchorage

Alaska’s largest city was rocked by a powerful earthquake, but there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Seismologists at the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center say the earthquake struck with a magnitude of 5.2 shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday.

Tsunami program manager Cindi Pressler says the quake was centered about 50 miles southwest of Anchorage.

The quake occurred 30 miles below ground and rumbled for several seconds. It was felt across Anchorage and a wide area beyond the municipality.

Anchorage police spokeswoman Anita Shell says there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
