About 400 Soldiers Expected Home Thursday

When a plane load of soldiers arrives Thursday night, it will mean more than half of the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson soldiers deployed to Afghanistan nearly a year ago are home.

The soldiers assigned to the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division have been returning to Anchorage in waves over the last week. Nearly 3,500 soldiers have been serving in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan.

Thursday’s flight will bring home about 400 soldiers, bringing the total back in Alaska to 1,800.

The remaining 1,700 soldiers will be returning over the next ten days.
